Apivar® Varroa Mite Treatment Strips
Apivar® is a trusted treatment for controlling Varroa destructor mites in honey bee colonies. It is widely used by both hobbyist and commercial beekeepers due to its effectiveness and ease of use.
Active Ingredient
Contains Amitraz, which targets the nervous system of Varroa mites. It spreads through the colony via normal bee contact.
How It Works
Strips are placed in the brood chamber, where bees walk over them and distribute the treatment throughout the hive. This helps control mites on both adult bees and within the brood area.
How to Use
- Use 2 strips per brood chamber
- Place strips between brood frames where bee traffic is high
- Leave in hive for 42–56 days (6–8 weeks)
- Remove and dispose after treatment
- Do not reuse strips
When to Use
Use outside of honey flow periods:
- Early spring (before supers are added), or
- Late summer / autumn after honey harvest
Not suitable when honey supers for human consumption are present.
Key Points
- Do not exceed recommended dosage
- Rotate treatments to reduce resistance
- Do not reuse strips or leave longer than 56 days
